Pays de la Loire Holiday Accommodation
Our comfortable, spacious, well-equipped, secluded, relaxing, self-catering holiday accommodation is situated in Mouliherne in the Maine-et-Loire département of les Pays de la Loire in France. The property is set in 2.35 hectares of flat ground (just under 6 acres), and is completely surrounded by woodland and “Forêt domaniale”, which means that it is full of wildlife, including deer, elusive pine martens, dormice, hares, wild boar (in the area), lizards and bats. Over 50 species of birds have been seen or heard around the property, including golden orioles, hoopoes, kestrels and buzzards. We also have a pair of barn owls who regularly nest in the roof of the main house!
La Vieille Maison is the oldest part of the property, and is thought to have been built around 1700. It features exposed beams throughout, many of which are original. The ceilings on the ground floor are around 3m high, but some of the beams on the first floor are quite low, so taller guests may need to mind their heads! There is a wide spiral staircase between ground and first floors.
The whole ground floor features wide, wheelchair-friendly doorways.
Sorry, but the property is strictly non-smoking.
We are within easy reach of the superb châteaux and wonderful vineyards of the Loire valley, as well as 2 magnificent zoos and the world famous French National Riding School and the Cadre Noir of Saumur. Golf, water sports, fishing, hiking, walking/rambling and cycling are all close by.
The larger towns of Tours and Angers are an easy 45 minute drive away, and we are ideally situated for all the events at Le Mans, as well as the equestrian competitions at Saumur.
In March 2024, after 4 years of waiting, we were finally connected to a fibre optic network, giving WiFi speeds of up to 2 Gbits/s download and 600 Mbits/s upload. Speeds in the gite are a little lower at up 100 Mbits/s in both directions.
